Hay meadows' overriding effect shapes ground beetle functional diversity in mountainous landscapes

چکیده

Mountain regions are hotspots of biodiversity, and particularly sensitive to human activities global changes. Characterizing biodiversity using trait-based approaches may improve the understanding evolutionary mechanistic basis ecological patterns in species distribution. The investigation trait–environment relationships, however, is challenging, especially when a hierarchical sampling design used, as this lead misidentification associations. Here, we investigate how functional traits ground beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae), taxon often used bioindicator climate environmental changes, vary with features mountainous landscape. study was conducted Stelvio National Park (Central Italian Alps), collecting individuals pitfall traps deployed within plots (small spatial scale), located along altitudinal transects (large scale). To association, double constrained correspondence analysis, which permits selection important variables while accounting for structure design. association largely one-dimensional, hay meadow acting main driver, negatively related brachypterous wing-form (indicator poor dispersal ability) and, lesser extent, specialized diet (only large scale) body length. Secondarily, these were soil pH larger scale, positively canopy cover elevation. Double analysis permutation schemes statistical testing effective robust analyze data sampling.

The effect of waterway distance on species diversity and Plant Functional Groups in mountainous rangelands of Anbaran Chai, Ardabil

The plant communities locating at the margins of the waterways play a vital role in the ecological processes and ecosystem services in the semi-arid mountainous regions. In this study, variations of plant diversity and composition at different distances from the waterway and its slope aspects were investigated. For this purpose, 15 sub-basins with a variety of area and length of waterway, in bo...

Deforestation Impacts on Bat Functional Diversity in Tropical Landscapes

Functional diversity is the variability in the functional roles carried out by species within ecosystems. Changes in the environment can affect this component of biodiversity and can, in turn, affect different processes, including some ecosystem services. This study aimed to determine the effect of forest loss on species richness, abundance and functional diversity of Neotropical bats. To this ...

Empirical modeling of atmospheric deposition in mountainous landscapes.

Atmospheric deposition has long been recognized as an important source of pollutants and nutrients to ecosystems. The need for reliable, spatially explicit estimates of total atmospheric deposition (wet + dry + cloud) is central, not only to air pollution effects researchers, but also for calculation of input-output budgets, and to decision makers faced with the challenge of assessing the effic...

Changes in ground beetle diversity and community composition in age structured forests (Coleoptera, Carabidae)

We examined diversity, community composition, and wing-state of Carabidae as a function of forest age in Piedmont North Carolina. Carabidae were collected monthly from 396 pitfall traps (12×33 sites) from March 2009 through February 2010, representing 5 forest age classes approximately 0, 10, 50, 85, and 150 years old. A total of 2,568 individuals, representing 30 genera and 63 species, were co...
